Amcom Offices Systems is a vendor partner of the Allegheny
Conference and the primary provider of document production solutions for
their facility in the Regional Enterprise Tower.
When the G20 Conference was
scheduled to come to Pittsburgh, the Conference decided to establish a media
support center for the nearly 3000 members of the international media who would
need a place to compose and submit articles. This center would provide the
WiFi needs of the reporters through the use of the Xplorion facility in the Regional Enterprise
Tower lobby.
The biggest challenge was to also provide hardcopy print support for
these same media members. The Allegheny
Conference wanted to go a step beyond just providing connectivity and
output for the G20 media. They wanted to do it in a
fashion that would support Sustainability and the Green
Initiative.
The answer for Amcom was the use of solid ink color printing systems.
With the Green Initiative in mind, Amcom provided eight Xerox Solid Ink Phaser
printing systems to support the printing needs at the media center. The 8860
Phaser uses a soy based, environmentally friendly solid ink that provides stunning and yet cost
effective output on standard office paper.
Tim Lightholder, Vice President
Technology Solution Development of Amcom said, "The speed of the units
allowed media members to enjoy vibrant output in a matter of seconds. It is
safe to say that many of them left the G20 spoiled…..they will have to go back
to the old laser printers in their respective offices after the
event!"
The quality advantages of solid ink
technology are matched by the positive impact on the environment. The Xerox
solid ink phasers create 90% less waste than traditional laser printers. There
is less packaging required for the solid ink cartridges than for typical laser
cartridge. And there is no waste bottle to be removed and emptied when full.
These units simply collect the unused ink in a reservoir tray similar to an ice
cube tray. The eco friendly and bio-degradable ink waste can be harmlessly
dumped into the garbage with no negative impact on the
environment.
In the end, the G20 was a success. The support of the
media staffs of all the visiting countries was provided through a diligent
collaborative effort between the Allegheny Conference and Amcom.
Lightholder said, "Everyone at
TeamAmcom was thrilled to participate in this historic event, both for the
region and for technology!"
